Explore Mexico
As part of the spring semester Humanities for Mexico course, students will journey across Mexico during the week of spring break, where they will have the opportunity to explore parts of the Yucatan Peninsula and the states of Central Mexico.
The adventure begins in Merida, with excursions to the nearby beach of Progreso, as well as Chichen Itza, one of the New 7 World Wonders. In Merida, students will visit the “Heart of Merida” festival and have the opportunity to swim in a cenote, a subterranean cavern. Next, fly to Mexico City, the second most populous city on earth and the industrial, ecomonic, and cultural center of Mexico. While there, visit some of the city’s greatest attractions and museums, and attend a traditional focolare dinner show.
Finally, head north to the state of Guanajuato, the geographical heart of Mexico, and the region that gave birth to the Mexican Revolution. While staying with a family in Guanajuato, attend a salsa lesson, participate in a musical tour of the city’s mysterious alleys, and take a ride on the Tequila Express!
A non-refundable $500 deposit will be accepted beginning September 2009, on a first-come, first served basis. Financial aid resources may be available.
The trip will depart on Friday March 26, 2010 and return on Sunday April 4, 2010.
